This Is Happening Now 2

Those who expected that Elite Squad 2 would be a decadent movie released as an attempt to enjoy the still present success of its predecessor were completely wrong. In fact, the film could join the select group (maybe led by The Godfather) in which the sequence of the story is quite as good as (or even better than) the original one. In this new storyline, Lieutenant-Colonel Nascimento (Wagner Moura) and Captain Andre Mathias (Andre Ramiro) are exonerated from the BOPE, the Police Special Operations Battalion of Rio de Janeiro, after a bloody invasion to control a rebellion in Bangu I. Due to his huge popularity, Nascimento is invited to work with the Secretary of Security. However, he finds out that this department is manipulated by corrupt officers and politicians that support the exploitation of poor communities by militias in the slums. Once again, Wagner Moura is absolutely perfect performing Nascimento’s furious fight against the criminals, this time even more present amongst the government and police themselves. Director Jose Padilha one more time strikingly portrayed the reality that everybody knows but refuses to see in one of the most famous cities of the world. The movie has a strong informative appeal responsible for building opinions and making people aware that the problem that surround them goes far beyond what they wished and thought it did. The veracity and astonishing presentation of the story makes you realize that everything you are watching is going on at that exactly moment while you are comfortably sitting on your spot. It feels like the screen is an undesirable window that we usually avoid to look through. You get sadly certain that the story will not be over when the credits appear and you leave the cinema.
