Lords of Dogtown is a true story written about the Z-boys. It is a truly uplifting movie that raises your attention to the friendships you make throughout life. It describes the hard times we go through which we have to fight to stay with each other and all the things that can get in the way. The Z-boys are a group of boys; the main three being Stacy Peralta (John Robinson), Jay Adams (Emile Hirsch), and Tony Alva (Victor Rasuk). Their Coach is Skip (Heath Ledger). These boys are known for their surfing talents, and take their skills on land with their skate boards. Adams says “We surf and we skate… everyday.” The boys skip school and wake up early to succeed in their surfing talents. The three of them are best friends, but when Skip creates the “Z-boy” skate team, he does not originally pick Stacy. When Stacy doesn’t make the team, the boys begin to turn on each other. Stacy envies Jay because he begins starts dating Tonys’ sister which doesn’t bother Tony at all. As the movie progresses, Stacy and Tony get offers from Skate sponsors and begin travelling the world to compete against one another. Jay never takes any offers he’s given so he remains in town with his dysfunctional mother. A fourth Z-boy was Syd. He was never a very good skate boarder but the boys still love him. Near the end he gets diagnosed with brain cancer and the only one left supporting him was Jay. These kids’ friends grew up together, sticking together through the tough times that they faced. The relationships the Z-boys have, represents what most friendships should be. They are there for each other, they screw up, they forget, they move on and they come back. I would rate this movie 8 stars out of ten for its true inspiration.
