The New Dream Team

If you want to watch a movie with non-stop action while keeping the viewer wondering about what is going on, then Inception is the perfect movie for you. Directed by the popular Christopher Nolan, Inception, is full of great twists and turns, that will keep the viewer on the edge of their seat. Leonardo Dicaprio stars in a very successful cast.

The movie is about a team of people with advanced intelligence and abilities, who have the technology to go inside people’s dreams in order to discover information and to change people’s opinions. Dom Cobb, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, is hired to attempt to enter into Robert Fischer’s, played by Cillian Murphy, dreams. Robert Fischer is the heir to a giant business, and his father is about to die. Cobb needs to successfully plant the false idea into Fischer’s head of stepping down from the company because that’s what Fischer’s father would have wanted. In order to do this task, Cobb and his team will need to go three levels of dreams deep into Fischer’s head. This essentially means traveling back to the dreams before the ones that are before the current dreams. Only once has Cobb ever attempted this kind of dangerous task, and ended up falling into a dangerous limbo. This uncharted dream area reveals a dream that is so deep, it feels like you have been there for a lifetime before you finally wake up. Cobb’s wife never realized they were still in a dream, and eventually her mind got so confused, she jumped off a building, believing she was in a dream, but ends up killing herself. The more dreams deep one goes, the longer time feels. For example, if Cobb went into a single dream, he would be in the dream for three minutes for every one minute in the real world. Then when he goes into the second dream, time is in a ratio of 20:1 minutes, and so on. If Cobb can successfully complete this task, he will be able to go back to the United States and see his children. To see a trailer click here

Christopher Nolan, who has directed other movies including The Dark Knight, does a great job directing Inception. With high action scenes in the movie, Nolan successfully pumps the crowd full of adrenaline. Christopher Nolan also brought back many of the actors in his previous Batman Movie, including, Ken Watanabe, Cillian Murphy, and Michael Canne. Their chemistry is undeniable and the audience will join in their chemistry for a wild ride into the arena of fantasy and reality.

Leonardo DiCaprio does an outstanding job performing as Dom Cobb in Inception. He successfully portrays a man that is very intelligent but has developed some psychological problems over the course of all the dreams he has entered. His dream team also performed outstanding. Lead by Ellen Page, Ariadne, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Arthur, the team positively impacted the movie and Leonardo DiCaprio’s role as the lead. Michael Cane, who plays Dom Cobb’s father is both wise and stable to act as a counter to the instability of the fantasy world.

The sound editors did a great job in making the movie sound good and kept the action flowing. The score writer, Has Zimmer uses one of the key ideas for the movie to add interest in the music. The key idea that time slows down when we sleep allows him to slow down the music during the dream sequences. We hear the same music at different speeds, creating a haunting and surreal soundtrack. An Edith Piaf song called, “Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien” is used over and over at many different speeds. This offers an interesting idea that coincides with ideas of the film.

Overall, Inception is a must see movie. It has a fantastic plot, a great cast, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, popular Director Christopher Nolan, and a great sound crew. Viewers will be forced to ask themselves, where does reality begin and fantasy end? If I believe in something, is it real? How do others perception of reality change my world? Did the movie end the way I thought it did? What does it all mean? I give this movie 5 stars.
